Publicist (full time, 12-month maternity cover)
Scribe, an award-winning independent book publisher, is seeking a publicist to join our publicity department. Working across a list that encompasses 50â55 titles per year of serious non-fiction and quality fiction, this job will provide an opportunity to construct high-profile media campaigns from scratch.
Responsible for the conception and creation of effective consumer-media campaigns for specific titles, the successful applicant will be working closely with authors, editors, and everyone involved in the publishing process. The job includes attending literary festivals and author events, both locally and interstate, when necessary.
The successful candidate must be able to demonstrate a love of books, excellent written and verbal communication skills, high-level organisational skills, a high degree of initiative, and the ability to work in a small office with good humour. Trade-publishing publicity experience is preferable, but applicants with a communications degree who are working in other industries are also encouraged to apply.

Production and Publishing Assistant (full time)
Scribe is an award-winning independent book publisher with offices in Melbourne and London. We publish over 50 non-fiction and fiction titles annually in Australia and about 40 in the United Kingdom. We are seeking an enthusiastic and motivated Production and Publishing Assistant to join our Brunswick office.
Reporting to the Managing Editor and working across both the local and UK lists, the role will involve all aspects of the book production process, including the accurate and timely preparation of print files, proofing and approval of printer proofs, monitoring of costings and schedules, organising reprints, database maintenance, and basic layout and typesetting functions. Publishing assistance will include the researching and entering of literary awards, and maintaining the log of unsolicited submissions, in addition to a range of general administrative duties.
This role requires proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite (particularly InDesign and Photoshop skills) and Microsoft Office. The successful applicant will also demonstrate excellent organisational and communication skills, a fastidious eye for detail, flexibility in working to tight deadlines and shifting priorities, and the ability to work in a small team. Experience in publishing is desirable, but not essential.
