RIP Eduardo Galeano

We are sad to hear of the recent passing of Eduardo Galeano.

Galeano, who died at the age of 74 in Montevideo on Monday, was the author of Open Veins of Latin America (1971) which Scribe published in Australia in 2009, as well as many other books. He was a committted socialist whose historical works condemning European and U.S. exploitation of Latin America over five centuries made him a revered figure among leftists.

He has been described as one of the ‘great writers of Latin America; his unusual and idiosyncratic works served to illuminate the history and politics of the entire continent.’
