Vale Tim Colebatch

Tim Colebatch has died, aged 75.

Scribe’s founder and publisher-in-chief, Henry Rosenbloom, said that, ‘I first met Tim at the University of Melbourne in the second half of the 1960s. He was then and always remained modest and thoroughly decent. He was also a very talented independent thinker and writer. He went on to become a terrific journalist, opinion-poll and electoral analyst, and economics editor and commentator. (He was so good and forthright in that role that Liberal treasurer Peter Costello tried to get him fired from The Age.)

I was very pleased, many years later, to be able to edit and publish Dick Hamer: the liberal Liberal, Tim’s comprehensive and excellent biography of the former Liberal premier. We will not see the likes of Tim (or of Hamer) again.’

We offer our condolences to Tim’s loved ones.
