Scribe and Varuna 2020 fellowships

The team at Varuna the National Writers’ House and the editors here at Scribe have selected the writers who will participate in this year’s Scribe & Varuna Residency. Combining a Varuna residency with an intensive mentorship with Scribe editors, this year’s program sought exciting new narrative nonfiction on climate change, nature, and the environment in the anthropocene.

Our 2020 fellowship recipients are:

  • Lauren Fuge for Voyagers
  • Jessica White for From the Miniature to the Momentous

Scribe senior editor David Golding said: ‘In a time of crisis, it remains important to look outside the present moment. Jessica White’s work looks back to the colonisation of Australia, and begins to deftly trace the intricate entanglings of gender, race, empire, and the environment that continue to affect us today, while Lauren Fuge examines humanity’s history of exploration and how it has driven the Anthropocene. Stories like these are vital for our future, and we are excited to work with these authors in partnership with Varuna.’

Congratulations to Lauren and Jessica. Find out more about the program at the Varuna website.
